I think I mentioned it before, but I'm on TWITTER now! Wanderclint.
As you saw above, I got the axe. On June 10, 2011, my association with the newspaper industry was ended (permanently) when I was laid off at the Wenatchee World. No need to fret. I had had my desk packed up for over a month, when a fellow employee, one who did a lot of the heavy lifting (as did I) was let go. I figured if she could be turned loose anyone could. I am amazed that the paper has held on as long as it has. Several others went out the door with me.
So now I'm unemployed, and it may turn out to be the best thing that ever happened to me. By the time I left, I was making so little money, that the main draw of staying there was the limited health insurance (of which I paid half). Now, I have time to work on ALL the projects I've been champing at the bit to finish, including the Scout Trail story which is eleven pages of coloring and and a front cover from completion. I have time to build a site for my new comic, Starting from Scratch and and the new half page format for Wandering Ones will allow me to update three time a week. Oh, and I started a novel. A tracker based murder mystery. I'm only a thousand words in, but it's flowing really well. I also might eventually have time to start updating Shin Kage again! Oh, and there's updating the resumé...
Did I mention I'm excited?
The World has generously given me severance through August, and I have started a schedule that pretty much equals a 7 hour work day every day (with an hour for excercise).
So, if you're worried about me, don't be. I will not only survive, I intend to THRIVE! :D
NEXT WEEK, we will be starting the Scout Trail preview. At the end that, I will have the entire PDF for sale (It looks great on a tablet!), if you want to help and get a great story in return, that will be the time.
Looking Forward. - Clint Hollingsworth
First of all, let me wish all my readers an excellent 2010. I sincerely hope that this is not only a stellar upcoming year for all of you, but that it heralds a decade of increasing prosperity.
I've been sitting here, watching the morning change from dense fog to large fluffy snowflakes and I've been contemplating the end of an era. If your read my 12-19 chatter, you know that Keenspot, as we know it is coming to an end. If you don't, a lot of the story, including Keen's memo to the cartoonists can be found here. Some readers have offered to help with web help and possible hosting, which I appreciate greatly. I will probably take up offers of help, but having had my hand held by Keen for (almost) 10 years, it's time I wised up and learned how to do things for myself.
So what will the new Wandering Ones site be like (assuming I can get it rehosted and working)? Not a lot different. I need to make a version without any Keenspot codes, but I don't have the ability to get complicated. The main thing is to get the comic displayed and the ad codes working so I don't get booted from my ad company. So, here is my to-do list:
Doesn't sound like much does it? Well, it's enough of a pain to take up time I'd rather be using to draw the comic. Any suggestions, don't hesitate to email.
By the way, I got a new used Mac over the holidays (with a credit card, sadly) and it's great, but the operating system is old OSX 10.3 so If you're contacting me on Facebook, I can't answer until I get an updated OS so that I can update my ancient version of Safari.
